Stefano Boeri is a world known architect, curator, critic and educator. In 2008-09, as a member of the Architecture Council for Expo 2015, he designed the Masterplan for Expo 2015 in Milan with Jacques Herzog and Ricky Burdett. Councillor for Culture, Fashion and Design of the Municipality of Milan from 2011 to 2013 and from 2015 to 2018 he was a member of the scientific committee of the Uffizi Galleries in Florence. Since February 2018 he has been President of the La Triennale di Milano Foundation, one of Italy’s leading cultural institutions, active in the promotion and setting up of exhibitions, conferences and events related to Art, Design and Architecture.

Content Introduction

For thousands of years, cities have been developing towards the goal of providing a safer place for human beings. Today, about 55% of the world's population lives in urban areas, and this number is expected to increase to 68% by 2050. It is a beautiful idea to create sustainable and pollution-free buildings and communities in forests, grasslands and nature, but we should realize that with the deepening of human activities on the earth, the so-called pure "nature" without human involvement or large areas is no longer there. Now, people should have the courage to face reality and consider how to apply the concept of sustainability in the context of high-density cities. In a larger format and in a more sustainable way, we will pay close attention to the more critical and urgent issues of the current relationship between humans, cities and nature.

As defenders of urban ecology and sustainable development, Boeri Architects has always placed nature and trees at the heart of our research projects. In 2021, seven years after the completion of the world's first vertical forest - Milan Vertical Forest, two vertical forests in Huanggang, China and Nanjing, China have also been completed. How these towers, which carry the building ecosystem composed of plants, animals, and humans, become an important driving force for improving the urban natural environment, increasing biodiversity, and contributing to the realization of the national double-carbon goal is what we have been pursuing. The problem. I also hope to take this opportunity to share the design practice experience of more than ten years. In this way, the research work on the future urban dual carbon and ecological diversity practice will continue to provide an imaginary with infinite possibilities for the development of the future city.
