Christopher Noessel

Christopher Noessel is a veteran of the interaction design industry, having designed products, crafted services, and helped clients with design strategy across many disparate domains for more than 20 years. In that time, he co-founded a small interaction design agency where he developed interactive exhibitions and environments for museums. He worked as a director of information design at international Web consultancy marchFIRST, where he also helped establish the interaction design Center of Excellence. For ten years, he worked with a boutique interaction design agency in San Francisco, where he led the “generator” half of that practice. For a time he was Design Principal at IBM, running the Design for AI guild to help equip that community of practice with world-class skills and tools. Christopher was one of the founding graduates of the now-passing-into legend Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Ivrea, Italy, where his thesis project was a comprehensive service design for lifelong learners called Fresh. The project was presented at the MLearn conference in London in 2003. He has since helped to visualize the future of counterterrorism as a freelancer, built prototypes of coming technologies for Microsoft, and designed telehealth devices to accommodate the crazy facts of modern health care.

Hugh Dubberly

Hugh Dubberly studied graphic design and received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Yale University. At Apple Computer for nearly ten years, Dubberly was a Creative Director, managing graphic design and corporate identity; he also produced the technology-forecast film “Knowledge Navigator,” presaging the internet and interaction via mobile devices. At internet pioneer Netscape for five years, he was Vice President of Design, managing groups responsible for the design, engineering, and production of Netscape’s web services. In 2000, he co-founded Dubberly Design Office, a systems, software, and service design consultancy. Much of the practice focuses on systems that support health and wellbeing, for clients such as Accenture, Alere, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson, Lilly, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and a range of start-up firms. Dubberly has served on AIGA’s national board, the SIGGRAPH Conference Committee, and chaired ACD’s “Design for the Internet” Conference. Dubberly has taught design courses at San Jose State, Art Center, CMU, Stanford, IIT/ID, Northeastern, CCA, and UC Berkeley. He edited a column “On Modeling” for the Association of Computing Machinery’s journal, Interactions, and has published more than 50 articles on design. He was elected to the ACM CHI Academy; named a Fellow of the AIGA; and nominated for the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt Museum National Design Award three times.

He was an early pioneer in promoting the commercial application of generative art and computational design in Web2 and Web3. As the first recipient of the White House National Design Award, he was honored for his algorithmically generated visualizations powered by data and AI. Additionally, he is a renowned author, online influencer, and investor in diverse startups. Currently, he serves as Vice President of Design and Artificial Intelligence at Microsoft. Previously, he held roles including Chief Technology Officer at Everbridge, Board Member of Sonos and Wieden+Kennedy, Partner at Kleiner Perkins, Head of Data Visualization at the MIT Media Lab, Head of Design & Inclusion at Automattic, Executive Vice President and Chief Experience Officer at Publicis Sapient, and the 16th President and CEO of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He has authored five books, including the beginner-friendly guide to AI/ML "How to Speak Machine" and the 2006 technology bestseller "Laws of Simplicity." His writings, interviews, and talks have been featured in prominent media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, TED, BBC, the World Economic Forum, the UN Climate Change Conference (COP), CNN, The Economist, Forbes, USA Today, Fortune, Fast Company, and Esquire. With 15+ years of experience working in New York City, San Francisco, China, Singapore, and now Australia, Jay Demetillo has built an impressive resume of experience and creating impact. Jay has designed for Twitter, Pinterest, Yahoo, and Grab. Jay was an adjunct professor at California College of the Arts in San Francisco and has spoken/lectured in China for ACG. He’s worked on notable projects like the Bay Lights, Gaspar Brasserie, San Francisco’s Park System SFPark, GrabFood, Grab's Facial Recognition for Drivers, and Grab AudioProtect. Jay is passionate about building products and designs that are inclusive, having empathy for your users, and dismantling yourbiases. Currently, he's at Canva where he led and launched Canva Sheets this year.

He is the design director of Alibaba Cloud and the design director of Tongyi. He led the Alibaba Cloud Design Department to become a national-level industrial design center, practicing and promoting professional development in the fields of artificial intelligence design and cloud computing design. Li Jianye is a renowned industrial designer in China. His designs have always been a dialogue between tradition and modernity, local and global, Eastern and Western cultures. He is also the designer and chief engineer of the "Flying" torch for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and a member of the Expert Committee of the China Industrial Design Association. Awarded the title of Outstanding Design Talent in Beijing's Industrial Design in 2023 and Senior Engineer of WGDO Green Design. Served as a judge for the iF Design Award for Industrial Design and was among the first batch of experts in the Digital Culture and Art Think Tank of the China Media Group's Central Museum. During his over 20-year design career, he has created many design works with practical significance and won market recognition at the same time. The "Flying" torch of the Winter Olympics is his most representative and influential design work. His representative work, the "Love You for 500 Years" ring, features a symbolic design with profound and rich implications, which is deeply loved by the Chinese people and even inspired a new wave of local aesthetics. Li Jianye has achieved remarkable success in the field of commercial design. For instance, his highly innovative design language and brand design for smartphones during the Smartisan Technology era, as well as the first-class Fidelio product series in terms of texture and experience during the Philips period.

Pradyumna Vyas

Prof. Pradyumna Vyas is the President of the World Design Organisation (WDO) and currently serves as Senior Advisor for Design Promotion and Innovation at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He was the Director of the National Institute of Design (NID), India’s premier design institute, from 2009 to 2019, and played a pivotal role in NID attaining the status of Institute of National Importance through an Act of Parliament. An alumnus of IIT Bombay with a Master’s in Industrial Design, Prof. Vyas was awarded an Honorary Master of Arts degree by the University for the Creative Arts, UK. He was instrumental in establishing the India Design Council in 2009 and served as its first Member Secretary. Under his leadership, the India Design Mark (I-Mark) was launched in collaboration with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). With over 38 years of experience, Prof. Vyas has significantly contributed to design education, policy, and promotion in India and globally. He has served on juries of prestigious international awards including G-Mark (Japan), German Design Award, and Taiwan International Student Design Competition. He is an Independent Director on the boards of Titan, Dynamatic Technologies, and Carysil, and continues to champion design for sustainable and inclusive development.

While at Tencent, he founded the User Experience Design Center (CDC), responsible for the user experience of internet products used by hundreds of millions of users, and cultivated a group of design talents who entered the core management of multiple internet enterprises.
