Professor Xiangyang Xin is an internationally renowned expert in interaction, experience, and service design. He has served as a judge for prestigious competitions such as the International Interaction Design Award, Japan's G-Mark, and the Red Star Design Award. Previously, he held the position of Dean of the School of Design at Jiangnan University and founded the Interaction Design program at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has provided consulting services for organizations including the United States Postal Service, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, Huawei, and Changhong.
Among his numerous accolades are the "Voice of the Future in Interaction Design" award from the International Interaction Design Association, the National Teaching Achievement Award (twice), the Gold Medal of the China Design Contribution Award, and honors such as "One of the Forty Designers Shaping China's 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up" and "One of the Seventy Designers in the 70 Years of New China."
From Designer to Citizen
When our shared community faces common challenges, the professional growth of designers gains broader horizons. The work of a designer will no longer be limited to creatively solving problems within specific scenarios. They must also be prepared to deeply understand complex socio-technical systems, leverage the strengths of design thinking in tackling "wicked problems," and effectively guide and plan the path for every individual within the system regarding their scenario experiences, cultural feelings, and value realization. It is through this process that designers will undergo a transformation in identity—from designer to responsible citizen.
